TL;DR GO TO CANOUAN initially planned this trip to Soho Beach House Canouan for my Sissy’s birthday in July, yet Hurricane Beryl ravaged the island. after a few months and a lot of help from the government, patrons of other islands and Soho House (good job, guys), most of the island is back up and running, so we went. PROS: -The beach(es) are basically private. -The House is beautiful. -You’re gonna see a good amount of turtles on ‘Turtle Island’ (the translation of Canouan). -no shocker here, but the staff is so friendly and hospitable. i didn’t feel uncomfortable or get catcalled as i have on other islands (looking at you, Nassau). -the charter flight WAS NOT BAD. CONS -maybe it’s because i’m not in a major city, but getting there is a trek. door-to-door, it took a little over 12 hours traveling to Canouan and damn near 24 traveling back, the latter due to lack of urgency, coordination and delays. WORTH IT, but be prepared to have true travel days, and pack light. (i travelled on my birthday, and my bag did not make it with me 🥲) -bugs. so many. it’s an island, yes, but just be warned. I have the most mosquito bites right now than I’ve had all year. As a member I met mentioned, ‘mosquito repellent is a requirement, not a suggestion.’ -there’s not much else to do than lounge on the beach and eat. again, I didn’t do water activities and didn’t get to go on the hike, but I wanted to shop and there aren’t any stores/outlets. -don’t drink the tap water. so, you have to buy bottled water. i hate the idea of buying water, especially at Soho House, but you don’t want the tap. this is heavily edited bc i could only fit so many characters, but i’m happy to talk your ear off about my experience if you wanna listen :) I would absolutely return to #canouan
