Having worked with, for, and been a long-term member of @sohohouse, I’ve visited or stayed at most of the Houses worldwide. Up until last week I would probably have said Holloway House in LA and the House in Istanbul were my favourites, but the House in Mexico City is a revelation. Having just spent a week there, I think it’s the best House they’ve ever opened. It’s a beautiful, grand property, the staff are delightful and the food is exemplary. When you travel a lot, I think you can often turn into a bit of a White Lotus nightmare guest (an arse, basically), constantly looking for faults in properties that demand your attention. The bar is relentlessly being raised, forcing consumers to be even more demanding, especially those for whom finding fault is also a career. Well, I looked pretty hard, but I couldn’t find a fault, not one. I thought I’d found a chink when the driver meant to be taking the family to a dawn balloon ride over the pyramids didn’t arrive, but the poor guy’s car broke down, and they found a replacement immediately. I honestly think Mexico City is where I discovered empathy, which I’ve always thought was an unnecessary attribute. Anyway, if you’re visiting this extraordinary city - a place which is a revelation in itself, and somewhere that feels as though it’s bizarrely twinned with Tokyo - beg, steal or join Soho House to stay here. You’ll never regret it. Five stars (or six if you’ve got ‘em). ❤️
