🇵🇭 October is Filipino American History Month! @cheflordmaynard — aka Kuya Lord — proudly represents his country, culture, heritage, and cuisine here in America with pride. You can taste it in his food, hear it from his Filipino accent through his speeches, see it in his restaurant’s decor and event setups, and even witness him fashion his barong with pride. From being an FOB from the Philippines in 2004, to attending the Culinary Institute of America in New York, to working alongside renowned chefs, to launching his own pop-up and opening his Filipino restaurant, to being awarded James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: California 2024, to being recognized by the City of Los Angeles & CD13 Los Angeles last year, and the LA Community, and to representing Filipino cuisine at every major food event — his journey is a true testament to passion, perseverance, and pride. He cooks from memory, from heart, and from home — letting the flavors of his Filipino roots speak for themselves. He never forgets where he came from — taho, balut, isaw, betamax — and he’s passing that love of culture to his kids and the next generation of Filipino chefs to carry the legacy forward. This is the true spirit of FAHM. Let’s celebrate October by honoring the history, culture, and contributions of Filipinos in the United States. 🇵🇭🧡 #FAHM #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth #KuyaLord
