I hosted a talk on burnout for @pallytalk at @kettners.soho the other day, and as I was preparing for the event, I had a think about my own symptoms of approaching burnout (compared to the clinical signs). One of the first things to go for me is the joy in getting dressed up, along with not prioritising the basic healthy habits I need to keep me going- eating well (and regularly) or not going to the gym. The basics just feel like excessive mental load, and an opportunity to buy more time (to try to do more work) note: this is never the solution. When you’re under excessive stress, your ability to think creatively and solve problems diminishes, so no matter how much extra time you try to buy, you’ll never have the feeling of getting caught up with your work because it will take you twice as long. Other signs of burnout: - exhaustion: emotional, physical, spiritual - cynicism, detachment - loss of joy in your interests - sleep problems, fatigue - small tasks feel harder - withdrawal, isolation Burnout can have lasting impacts on your brain, your body, your career and relationships so it’s important to notice the signs and make changes before it’s too late 🫶🏼
