Another highlight of my trip to NYC was being able to share in a talking circle for @visiblewomenagency which was created by the wonderful @stacey_yael. We spoke on the topic of healing from domestic violence. I’ve learnt that through sharing, others feel empowered to share. I’ve learnt that as an abuse victim, it was normal to not realize in the height of my situations I was in abusive situations. So much brainwashing occurs when you are in the heart of a bad situation. I was able to not only share, but also listen. I am in awe of @sydneyscotia who has bravely gone ahead and created her documentary which shows the effects that domestic violence has on the brain, @this_hits_home_ . I am also so inspired by @synclaire_warren and her words she spoke on her own experiences with DV, and how she had to take the time to heal before she was able to really accept what she had experienced. Being able to sit with these incredible women and speak so honestly and openly was such a beautiful, healing experience yet heartbreaking of course, all the same. Thanks to all who came out, and a big thanks to Stacey for creating a safe environment where we could all get together to talk about healing, and forging ahead. I hope that more healing talks occur, and that this topic no longer remains taboo. In the dark, these matters get worse. In the light, there’s an opportunity to heal, and create a safer world. ❤️
