A Diamond In The Hollar At last, I can talk about it! I just got back from a private viewing in New York, of a film I did in Maryland, written and directed by Rich Addams (well known in the music scene in New York) , produced by Ashton Clay (the Clay family is iconic in Charleston WV for their Center for the Arts, which has had an enormous impact on the community), titled A Diamond, In The Hollar, where I played opposite, Dorie Barton. (some of you may recognize her from Meet the Fockers, The Mentalist, or Girl Flu, among many others) I had very high hopes for this one, and I’m happy to say they were well placed, and, it is ready for festivals! A Diamond In The Hollar, is a, in my opinion, much needed, women’s empowerment story that takes place in a coal mining town in West Virginia. It is not a documentary and it is not a biography but it is indeed, very much, based on real events. A middle-aged woman from rural West Virginia finds herself at an intersection of an abusive marriage and a chance to escape the chaos and control of the holler. To be clear, I don’t play a good person in this movie. I play exactly the kind of person that many of us despise. I gain no joy from portraying people like that, beyond my joy of acting. The fulfillment I get is from knowing that I helped to tell such a story, that may inspire women in abusive relationships, to find a way out, even if my character was a villain in it. Thank you, Rich and Ash for bringing me into such an amazing project. You have a very powerful story and it is well presented. I look forward to being a part of what I think will be a dynamic festival, run! Look for A Diamond, In The Hollar in festivals and 2025 and 2026. This should be a hell of a journey, and frankly, Just in time.
