/ Krampus & Perchten - Krampus, a figure from Alpine folklore, is a horned, demonic counterpart to St. Nicholas. He punishes naughty children with scares, birch rods, or symbolic gestures, while St. Nicholas rewards the well-behaved. Traditionally celebrated on December 5 (Krampusnacht), people dress as Krampus and participate in parades (Krampusläufe), scaring onlookers and spreading holiday cheer with a dark twist. Today, these events have grown into lively festivals with elaborate costumes, music, and cultural gatherings, blending old folklore with modern celebration. This tradition remains especially popular in Austria, Germany, and other parts of Central Europe.
