Soho House Amsterdam

Soho House is personally responsible for setting the tone for a wave of hoteliers who also wanted to create places that feel like home. After many decades of impersonal hotel rooms that all looked the same, this way of running a hotel sparked a sense of creativity. Many design brands even wanted to showcase their version of “home” in guesthouses or hotel rooms (and eventually sell their designs too). At @sohohouse they did it the other way around: by creating all those hotels, restaurants and member clubs with that recognizable chic British countryside design and a strong emphasis on art, their guests got inspired too: “Where can I buy that lamp? Would that sofa look good in my apartment?” Et voilà: @sohohome was born. They first opened a store in London, which was a success. After that came stores in the US (and a new one in Notting Hill), and now they’ve opened a Soho Home Studio in Amsterdam, the first one in Europe. This also makes it easier to ship the furniture across the continent.
